July 01, 2015

Texas Local Long-Term Care Ombudsman,Suzanna Sulfstede, highlights local long-term care issues while promoting the White House Conference on Aging in an article for the Dallas Morning News. “A lot of times, people are in crisis mode because they have to make a decision within the next day or two as the hospital discharges their loved one, they’re going to need help and they don’t know how to pay for it,” said Sulfstede, director of the long-term care ombudsman program at the Senior Source.  “People think Medicare pays for nursing home care, when it doesn’t,” she said. “People also think Medicaid will pay for assisted living, when it doesn’t, unless you can qualify under a waiver program.”
