Idaho LTCO is selected as a "trailblazer" in honor of Older Americans Month

May 12, 2016

In honor of Older Americans Month this May, the Administration for Community Living has selected "trailblazers" - older adults who are blazing a trail in their communities across the nation. Among them is resident advocate Penelope Shaw. Penny is on the board of the Massachusetts Advocates for Nursing Home Reform and a member of committees for several other disability and elder rights organizations. She speaks publicly on these issues regularly and has been published in long-term care journals. Click the here to read about Penny.

Another trailblazer is Jan Noyes from Idaho. Jan is a volunteer ombudsman and has been recruiting, training, recording volunteer paperwork, and visiting facilities to advocate for the residents for 10 years now.

May is Older Americans Month

May is a month of fresh beginnings. Perennials bloom once again, blazing a trail of bright color. May is also when we celebrate Older American’s Month (OAM), acknowledging the perennial contributions of older adults to our nation. The 2016 OAM theme is Blaze a Trail. The Administration for Community Living will use this opportunity to raise awareness about important issues facing older adults. ACL will also highlight the ways that older Americans are advocating for themselves, their peers, and their communities.
