The National Long-Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center (NORC) is excited to announce the addition of two new continuing education courses to our On-Demand Training Center.

These self-paced courses are designed to help Ombudsman program representatives strengthen their advocacy skills and build on the knowledge gained through initial certification training.

The On-Demand Training Center provides accessible, online education for Ombudsman staff, volunteers, and anyone interested in promoting quality long-term care. Available anytime through your computer, the Training Center allows learners to explore essential topics at their own pace while supporting ongoing professional development.

New Courses

  • Assessments and Care Plans: Ombudsman Program Practices to Support Rights and Care
Residents have the right to receive person-centered care based on individualized assessments and care plans. This course helps participants better understand those rights and the Ombudsman program’s role in supporting them. Participants will learn key terms related to assessments and care planning; review assessment and care plan requirements across long-term care settings; and explore practical examples that demonstrate Ombudsman advocacy skills and strategies.
  • Strengthening Communication Skills for Resident-Directed Advocacy
Effective communication is at the heart of successful Ombudsman advocacy. This course explores communication techniques that help build trust, navigate challenging conversations, and support resident-directed advocacy. Participants will strengthen communication and conflict resolution skills; learn strategies for adapting communication styles to different situations; and apply advocacy skills through real-world examples.

The On-Demand Training Center offers flexible online learning that allows you to complete courses whenever it fits your schedule. In addition to these new courses, you’ll find courses on Initial Certification Training, the National Ombudsman Reporting System (NORS), and the Toolkit for Law Enforcement and EMS When Called to a Long-Term Care Facility.
