America’s Hidden Horror: Sexual Abuse in Nursing Homes and Care Facilities

The Kansas City Star published an article about the sexual abuse of residents in long-term care facilities. The article states that this is a largely hidden problem nationwide, “People don’t even think that an older person would be sexually assaulted, would be raped, would be a victim,” said Edwin Walker, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Federal Administration on Aging. Since there is no way of knowing exactly how much of this goes on, it leaves regulators, advocates and prosecutors struggling to prevent abuse and respond when it happens. Read the full article here.
