In Maryland, Governor Wes Moore has signed two critical bills passed by the Maryland General Assembly to strengthen oversight and protect residents in assisted living and nursing homes.
The first bill, establishes a permanent $2 million annual appropriation for Maryland’s Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman. The funding will support investigations of complaints, expand advocacy services, and ensure stronger oversight of long-term care facilities.
The second bill, addresses involuntary discharges and transfers from nursing homes. The legislation creates stronger safeguards to ensure residents are not moved unsafely or without proper notice.
