Pennsylvania Ombudsman, Kim Shelter, Is Interviewed on Resident Complaints Relating to Long-Term Care Issues

Kim Shelter, Data and Analytics specialist in the Pennsylvania Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman, was interviewed by FOX43 regarding the numerous complaints in care from its residents. As many of the COVID-19 protocols are still set to go on lockdown due to a single exposure, many residents face isolation and violation of their resident’s rights. Shelter said that the choices of residents and families need to be supported and encouraged in these care decisions, as it can result in trauma and solitary. Pennsylvania’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman program has been advocating on behalf of the residents and the CMS guidelines have declared that despite a new outbreak within a facility, compassionate care visits are to continue in long-term care settings at all times.
