Connecticut State Ombudsman, Mairead Painter, was interviewed in the first part of a four-part series of articles on the care options available to Connecticut's aging population.
This installment of the series focused on the growing aging population in Connecticut and the shortage of staff in nursing facilities. Mairead has suggested digitizing staffing records in an electronic database in an effort to give both current and prospective consumers the most up-to-date information in an easily accessible way. Additionally, she points out that CT's older population outnumbers the population who want to care for them in these facilities.
Mairead also commented on the difficulty of finding affordable housing for older people and people with disabilities. Because of this shortage, they're forced to turn to institutions.
