The Connecticut State Long-Term Care Ombudsman, Mairead Painter, was interviewed in an article discussing issues they have been seeing in Connecticut nursing homes lately, including those which can be attributed to poor staffing or high staff turnover.
Mairead discussed how staff turnover and understaffing can result in residents not receiving the same level of care they would be getting if there was a consistent workforce that knows the needs of the facility's residents.
Mairead also advocated for increasing the candidate pool for surveyor positions, both to increase the likelihood that issues aside from nursing will be noticed and to get the inspection positions filled more quickly.
