USA Today featured D.C. State Long-Term Care Ombudsman, Mark Miller, in their article 'Just cruel at this point': Nursing homes push to reopen for visits, hugs after COVID-19 vaccine. The article highlights stories of resident experiences during COVID-19 and updates on where we go from here after the release of the March 10 CMS guidance. “Many residents have said they feel like prisoners,” said Mark Miller. He noted that in most states representatives have spent the year locked out of facilities they would routinely visit to monitor conditions and assess complaints. The result has contributed to a nearly 20% decline in the complaints logged last year into the Washington ombudsman office Miller directs.
